Overview

We know a gem when we see it and the thrilling combination of this tasteful house and the natural coastal setting has quickly made its way to our hearts and books: a location we honestly find hard to beat coupled with a gorgeous village house that's lovingly cared for and leaves little to be desired. Touches such as the stonework and wooden ceilings in the summer kitchen or the restored furnishings give it a subtle rustic feel to make it go very well with our selection criteria.

A stone's throw away from a long and pretty sandy beach in Costa da Morte, you can expect your holidays to be filled with the distinctive, salty seaside scent we all recognise in coastal villages.

This combination of setting and house is all about restfulness and fantastic exploring opportunities for sea lovers that don't want to give up on the possibility of country and forest excursions. Besides enjoying an enviable beachside location where the sighting of dolphins is not unusual during the summertime, other very gratifying trips are also at hand in the Baldaio area with 1,000 hectares of protected land and interesting wetlands. Here, nature lovers will find fantastic spots for birdwatching and other activities such as horseriding in the dunes, diving or organised walks in the wetlands. The hinterland in Galicia has beautiful Atlantic forests that can make a fantastic day out.

The house breathes summer fun out of every single pore, and this goes for the natural surroundings too. But don't be tricked into thinking that this is just a summer house: true sea lovers will find this is an equally ideal all year round destination, in spite –or rather because– of the ferocious Atlantic battering, in the harshest season of the year, a coast that bears the name of death and features cliffs as high as they come in Europe.

The crashing waves against the rocks is part –a big one– of the charm and the fun in out-of-season Galicia. The area is as mild as mild can be in Northern Spain, and with a fireplace in the living room and radiators throughout, the house doubles as the cosiest of retreats during the cooler months.

The four double bedrooms and one twin come in various soft colours and are fresh, spacious and with careful attention to detail. However, and chiefly on account of seating and living spaces, we generally found the house to be best suited for a party of around six guests. Sleeping arrangements are perfectly fine for groups of up to eight or ten guests.

Fenced by hedges and a wall that would stop the occasional passerby from seeing inside the property, flat child-safe lawned garden with some fruit trees and sunloungers gives plenty of space for sunbathing, children games or rolling around in the grass! Days are long here in the farthest western spot of Spain, but the garden has lighting on the walls by the porches in case you aren't done with the rolling by dusk. This means that seaviews are only available from the first floor.

The only property next to this villa belongs to a polite and respectful family who occasionally holiday in this dwelling, which is separated from your holiday home by a storage space and faces a different way, so your privacy is not compromised and you are not overlooked.

Comfortable and furnished porches looking to the garden are fantastic for summer evenings at home, and connect directly to a well-equipped summer kitchen so that cooking and dining al fresco is the most pleasurable of experiences.
