Overview

Rustic and magical. Just two words to describe this delightful cottage located in one of the prettiest regions of Spain: La Garrotxa. A property full of character set in idyllic countryside, it’s just what we like for our own holidays.

The property is a restored mill well over 300 years old. There are even some references to this building dating from the 13th century so, as you can imagine, it certainly has plenty of old world charm. Entering the building on the ground floor you will find the reception area where the first thing you will notice is an archway of pumice stone with water flowing through. This is the mill in working order with the water passing through the old stones - what a feature!

The rest of the accommodation is arranged on the first and second floors and, although not particularly large, the space has a cosy and comfortable feel. The kitchen and living/dining areas are on the first floor and open directly onto the furnished porch and gardens.

The bedrooms are on the second floor and have retained all their original features – including some squeaky floorboards which all add to the old world experience. The owner purchased new double beds in 2020 so your comfort won’t be compromised.

Although the accommodation is fairly simple and there are no ensuite facilities, it is well equipped and you will find a host of lovely touches here and there throughout the property including a dishwasher, Wifi connection, nice wine glasses, and charcoal should you choose to have a barbecue.

Outdoors, the property has lots to offer. The gardens are enclosed and, while not huge, are large enough for a lovely pool, a lawned area and a terrace.

The pool can be gated but we felt that the gaps between the posts on the garden fence were perhaps too wide for small children or toddlers to get through. From the gardens there’s a staircase which climbs up to a furnished roof terrace with lovely views where you can fully experience the tranquillity and beauty of the area.

This property offers a great deal of privacy. It is located at the end of a village and, although there are other houses nearby, it’s not overlooked.

It’s a perfect retreat for those who don’t like to drive more than is strictly necessary and is only a short walk of around 10 to 15 minutes down to the village where you will find a small supermarket, as well as bars and restaurants offering some delicious meals. Although the return is uphill, we don’t feel it’s too difficult.

Outdoor enthusiasts and active families should not miss this region as there is so much to do in La Garrotxa from exploring medieval villages, the Pyrenees, wild swimming and kayaking.

As well, the coast is less than an hour away where you will find some of the most stunning stretches of Mediterranean coast in Spain.

Nick | October | 2023

A beautiful place, really quite location but a 10 minute walk to bars and restaurants. Immaculately clean, which considering the properties age is a miracle! Surrounded by nature the only night time noises were the tinkling of cow bells and the owls. Jaume was the perfect host. The bed was really comfortable with lovely linen. There were plenty of towels. One of the best places we have ever stayed."

In 1 woord een wereldplek, rust en privacy. Heerlijke bedden.
