Overview

In Pallars Jussa, the alpine air is fresh and fragrant. This is the perfect location for wandering the pine green hills, splashing in the cool river that rambles through Valldarques, and discovering the crumbling ruins of castles, peaceful nooks, and tiny charming Romanic chapels.

The property we have picked may not be edged with frills and lace, but its understated simplicity and professional presentation ensure a comfortable self-catering spot where you can soak up the sweet nectar of nature.

At first glance, the four-bed property may seem to teeter towards minimalist design, but the bedsheets are pressed straight from the launderette, the bathroom is sparkling clean, and customer care can be found around the clock should you need it.

The villa is a tasteful rendition of white-washed walls and exposed beams on the inside, and honey-colored stone on the outside with traditional arches providing peep holes from the terrace.

The bedrooms are clean and airy with views that stretch out over the tree studded hills and into the peaks.

The layout has been well considered with most of the bedrooms settled lazily on the ground floor, and the living spaces and kitchen on the first. This means that you can get creative in the kitchen and simply carry the fruits of your labor out to the terrace for al fresco suppers beneath the moonlight.

The terrace is one of the major highlights of the functional property; the covered verandah, the wooden table, the hanging lantern, and the sumptuous views provides a more than adequate backdrop for swilling Catalonian vino and dishing out paella.

The pool area has to be the jewel in the crown though.

When we first spotted the solo barbeque out by the front of the property, it didn’t do much to catch our eye. Yet when we stumbled upon the pool with its sprawling canyon views in every direction, its charming rustic fence, and its sun chairs gazing into the abyss – we knew this would be the place where guests would want to stay.

For those seeking simplicity and serenity without compromising on comfort and care – this villa strikes just the right balance.

YOUR REVIEWS

Ann | October | 2022

The house was comfortable, well equipped, clean and in a delightful location in the hills. We had a relaxing holiday and enjoyed exploring the local area. We were fortunate to have fine weather. We may return in future to discover more of this attractive region. However, we would like to suggest a few additions which we feel would improve the facilities significantly. 1. Even in October we suffered insect bites. We recommend that insect netting be fixed to the windows so that at night the shutters can be closed while the windows can be left open to allow air to circulate. 2. The kitchen equipment was adequate but limited: a] It included lots of very large pans for 8 or more guests but no small pans at all which would have been very useful to us as a couple. b] To remove hot dishes from the oven the only way we could protect our hands was to use a towel as no oven cloth or gloves were provided. c] The outdoor table and the barbecue made meals on the terrace an attractive option. We recommend trays should be provided to make it easier to carry everything from the upstairs kitchen. d] We would have sorted out our rubbish for recycling had separate bins been provided. 3.The only television programmes we could find were in Catalan. We appreciate it was not realistic to expect English language programmes, but we would have appreciated the option of some programmes in Spanish which we can understand. 4. Some of the steeper parts of the access track have been eroded and could be repaired. Finally, we were very happy with all the help and support we received from every member of the team at Rustical Travel especially as the pandemic meant we had to re-schedule our holiday more than once."

The bookingservice was good. Upfront information about the absence of airconditioning, as in all ‘rustic’ houses of rustical travel, was correct. Owner of the house (contactperson on location) was very friendly. He even brought his own coffee machine as ours appeared broken on arrival! We expected temperatures in the higher Pyrenee country to be slightly moderate, at least in night time. As in all of Europe, this summer the weather was extremely dry and hot. Nobody to blame! We enjoyed the lovely swimmingpool! So far all was well, Except…. The only solution to try and cool the rooms a bit was to open windows at night. Unfortunately there were no insect screens. Our first night a bat entered the sleepingroom of my daughter and we found out, there were nests of bats in every (!) windowframe in the house. Usually they wo’nt enter the house, but apparently they did now… .It made us feel uncomfortable. I understand there is no good solution against bats, as they are protected, but screens will at least help them (and the large grasshoppers!) to stay outside of the rooms. We decided to leave after 4 nights, as sleeping was difficult for all family members, because of the heat and fear of bats (and grasshoppers)….. Our recommmendation: place insect screens in all window frames!"

Top-location, sublime views, very friendly local contact. Tip: renewal of outdoor furniture (many are damaged) and a table and chairs, so you can eat your barbecue on the terrace."

Rustical Update

in March 2022 we were informed that the outdoor furniture was replaced. There is also now an outdoor table by the front patio.

The villa is a gorgeous, spacious, cool place. The fact that all bedrooms have their own bathrooms is a great luxury. It's truly 'away from it all' and the pool just makes the experience complete. You need it to cool down! Perfect for a family reunion: we spent the week in June just enjoying each other's company in the sun. Just wish we could have stayed longer. Our dogs enjoyed their freedom too! The nearby 'basses' are also truly worthwhile. It's all about peace and quiet and nature. The stars at night were absolutely magical."

This Villa is in a beautiful location with great views. Kitchen a little outdated (oven, fridge), but all 4 bedrooms are big with ensuite and house is nice and clean and wifi reception is good. The pool isn't massive but perfectly positioned The wild swimming pools are amazing, secluded and picturesque! a real treat. If you like road cycling (5-7% uphill/downhill) the road the house is on, the L-511 from coll de cargo to Isona and back is an absolute must. Le Seu D'Urgell on way to Andorra is well worth a visit - a lovely smart town with 92 olympic park where you can white water raft and then enjoy the surprisingly good range of beers and gins!"

We had a fantastic stay at CA37 - the villa was lovely and the location absolutely fantastic - all we could have asked for a relaxing break in a stunning location - peace and tranquility and amazing views. As well as the pool at the villa there were also the brilliant wild swimming holes a close walk away - again simply stunning..... The villa was spotlessly clean and very well appointed, the only slight exception was although very well supplied with crockery and large pots and pans we could have done with a few smaller pans and ovenproof dishes., but maybe not everyone cooks in...? The local contact At the villa (Frank?) was also very helpful and made sure the villa and pool were kept clean and well maintained. A fantastic holiday in a very special place... We hope to return!"

Andy | September | 2016

Set within a stunning landscape, Casa Sola is an oasis of peace and tranquility. It’s a perfect destination for walkers and those who enjoy the great outdoors. Exhilarating days exploring the spectacular mountains were followed by refreshing dips in the villa’s pool (with a view) to cool down. Climbing through sleepy villages, we discovered tiny hillside chapels tucked away along trails that gave way to dramatic mountain vistas and a countryside abundant in wild flowers and aromas of lavender, rosemary and forest pine. A truly sensory experience. The villa is set in extensive grounds and inside has a good flow of space and great views. It was spotlessly clean with fresh linen. The kitchen is well equipped and the covered terrace is a delightful area to unwind with some homemade tapas and a glass of wine. The facilities would be enhanced with some oven dishes and a few ‘proper’ wine glasses, plus sharper kitchen knives would be useful too. But these tiny things didn’t compromise the enjoyment of our stay. Francesc (the local agent) is welcoming and helpful and Pastisseria Forn in the village is a must for some indulgent pastries, excellent cakes and delicious chocolate treats. Recommended."
