Overview

This pretty little village cottage, spread out across 3 floors, makes for a simple yet satisfying holiday break.

The delight of having your own terrace, patio and private plunge pool is unmatched when the heat gets oppressive, and this is where the cottage stands out.

You walk into a reception and a welcoming comfortable living area with a couple of sofas, a breakfast table and a cosy fireplace for cooler weather.

Just adjacent is the country-style kitchen with all the necessary mod cons (including a dishwasher) and direct access to the plunge pool room.

The pool is small and although the space is reminiscent of a roman bath, it is not heated.

Dips in the plunge pool in a hot summer day can be revitalizing. During the peak of summer, pick a refreshment drink, dip your feet in the pool and relax while avoiding the intense midday sun.

The typically Andalusian whitewashed patio, is just next to the pool and is totally private; convenient for early al fresco breakfasts.

Up a few steps from the ground floor, the bedrooms, each with their ensuite facilities and Juliette balconies. The style is no-fuss and rustic, yet balanced with soft colours. The contrast of the white walls and the wooden fittings is pleasing to the eye and gives a refreshingly modern feel.

The next flight of steps takes you to the second living area of the house and to the wide, outdoor terrace. Open the wooden doors and create one large, versatile space for all to enjoy.

The views from the terrace are great and extend over the surrounding countryside.

Laze in the sun on the comfy sun beds, admire the views while enjoying an afternoon drink or savour an al-fresco meal during the last light of the day; it is just the place for a perfect pause.

We cannot say that the terrace is totally private and not overlooked, but upon our visit it did not seem very exposed at all considering it is a village house.

The property also benefits from WiFi internet connection, and if you are travelling during colder months, there is heating available as well as two fireplaces to keep you warm.

Given the number of steps, this cottage is probably not the best choice for families with toddlers or for people with disability.

The village of Gaucin is one of those desirable destinations that people take to for its smart, well-kept style, its Andalusian atmosphere as well as its location. It is a great base for discovering the Costa coastline or for walks in nature.

For those who appreciate a hint of history, Ronda town is just 40minutes away. For less touristy visits, the small traditional villages such as Genalguacil and the charming Jimena de la Frontera are both well worth it.

Parking is on the street and usually available close to the church, some 50m away from the house; although smaller cars may be able to park even closer.

This was a lovely place for our family holiday. Great access to beaches, horse-riding and a daytrip to Gibraltar among other things - and always being able to come 'home' to a lovely calm place where we could rebuild energy for the next day. The plunge pool was a fun extra. Our host was wonderful - very warm and helpful. The village itself is beautiful and has a lovely 'sleepy' charm. We thoroughly recommend this place!"

I am afraid the lack of air conditioning in the summer made the house incredibly hot ( just two fans which we had to move from room to room) Balcony and plunge pool were great."

Gaucin is a wonderful location and out house was quite beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The outdoor furniture could do with replacing as upstairs it was damaged and downstairs was a bit worn out but otherwise the place was a dream. Would love to visit again"
