Overview

It's hard to believe that this was once a ramshackle old building where a local shepherd spent the summers with his herd.

The house comes with the extensive original estate, where the shepherd's goats used to roam, planted with olive and almond trees, and the area remains a quiet, farming community, but the transformation into a charming two-bedroomed holiday villa is complete.

With the added attraction of a beautiful 8.5-metre swimming pool, the holiday home is well set up for a relaxing Andalucia holiday.

It is outdoors that one appreciates what a fabulous location this is. The setting – amid rolling hills against a backdrop of El Torcal Natural Park –is gorgeous.

The restored house retains the original terracotta floor and beamed ceilings. Thick stone walls remind you of the age and solidity of the house and maintain excellent temperatures all year round. Although just in case you need them, there are ceiling fans, too. The villa is comfortable for four people and guest-friendly, all on one floor.

The kitchen is simple but adequate for self-catering.

Both bedrooms have good size beds.

There's plenty of terrace space and a porch from which to enjoy the scenery and the mature gardens. You can sit out and dine in a shady corner by the house.

The pool is a good size for proper swims and there's genuine privacy in the pool area, where you'll find a small side lawn.

You're quite off the beaten track here. The villa's fenced grounds are contained within an area that has the feel of genuine working farmland, with a few horses around, and the views are truly wonderful. Beginning at nearby hills, they encompass the high rocky mountains of the Sierra de Las Nieves, El Torcal, the forest-covered Montes de Malaga and the Mediterranean Sea in the distance: from here you are looking south over a significant area of the province of Malaga.

Some will be attracted by the fact that the property is located right by El Torcal, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a variety of options for walking and enjoying its unique, rugged scenery, lakes and rivers. If the summer sun is strong, there are short walks.

The location, although thoroughly secluded and far, far away from large towns and traffic, is in fact well suited for visiting Andalucia's most famous cultural cities. For day trips you could choose from Granada, Cordoba and Seville. Closer than these, just 25 minutes away, Antequera town makes for a very agreeable visit, combining maybe historical monuments such as the Roman baths with a nice lunch, or shopping for fresh produce at the old covered market.

Banks and other restaurants are 8 minutes away in Villanueva de la Concepcion with simple shopping and there's a bar closer still in La Higuera village less than 2 km away. Local restaurants are inexpensive, often with with good traditional food but unadventurous. For eating out in style, you're best advised to make the trip to the busier Antequera town.

The property, grounds and pool were terrific! The villa contained all necessary for a self catering holiday. The villa was very well presented on arrival and a welcome box of groceries was much appreciated. The location was heavenly! We felt we had traveled back in time, being surrounded by Olive Groves and Goat Farms was very biblical, very Andalucian! I would certainly recommend this property!"

This place is a true gem. What a view! Our initial plan was to stay for a week but we ended up staying for almost 3 weeks. The quitness, the night skies, surrounded by nature and the breathtaking views made this a perfect hideaway for us. The house can use some TLC but it was just lovely in its simplicity. Everything we needed was there. We could buy groceries and visit restaurants in the nearest village, just a 5 minute drive from the house. We would love to come for another stay!"

The house and its location are lovely. We had a very enjoyable time. Pretty views and so many birds! Great pool. Very nice master bedroom. Two points of improvement: 1) the house and its gardens look quite a bit different than in the pictures shown on your website. We would recommend updating the pictures. 2) the only loveless part of the house was the kitchen. It would not take much to add a few kitchen supplies (decent cutting boards, a few small dish bowls, kitchen towels, some black pepper) to make it more homely."

After staying in a few of your villas I was a little disappointed with this one which is a shame because it could be great. We liked the pool and the situation but we're not impressed with the standard of maintenance and kitchen equipment Of the 4 internal doors only 1 closed the others had to be kept shut with pillows on the floor. On tables and by pool some of the tiles were missing and in some cases filled in with plaster There's was only enough plates and bowls for each person to use once. One set of plates were too large for the dishwasher and were difficult to wash in a curved sink where the plug didn't make a seal The washing machine/ fridge in the BBQ area were giving mild electric shocks when in use. Also one of the outside lights fell off the wall one evening which gave us all a fright as it took a while to find as no one was around that area when it happened. The swimming pool cover over the bottom outlet was broken so we risked stepping into the hole. The gas for the hob ran out half way through the first meal and there wasn't a spare so had to wait to the next day. We were able finish the meal in the oven but couldn't cook everything. Overall just needs some attention and thought about what people want on a villa holiday."

Rustical Update

Further to this feedback and our talks with property managers, they insist that for the villa maintenance they hire a team and they are available for any issues that may arise. They also mention that they will review every point and make any necessary improvements / checks.

The remote location, the stunning views and the charming house made our three weeks stay a very much appreciated family holiday. The narrow off road track to the house is a bit adventurous though. The kitchen, bed- and bathrooms were fully equipped. The two fridges could definitely do with an upgrade however (the one in the kitchen had no bottle holder and the one in the bbq place did not cool properly). The pool was well kept and cleaned weekly and the hotel nearby provided us with all information we needed! We loved it all very much. Definitely recommended."

Philip | June | 2019

The property was beautifully secluded though not unduly isolated. The property itself met all expectations in terms of facilities, quality, comfort and cleanliness (although the pool could have done with a decent clean halfway through the week given the amount of foliage on the bottom - we did our best but would have expected some help with it.) The "lack" of air-conditioning was lovely - the old thick finca walls and small shaded windows did their job brilliantly. Perfectly positioned for day trips to Cordoba, Ronda, and closer attractions such as Antequera, El Torca, and El Chorro, this feels like a little corner of heaven far from the madding crowd without being too far off the (dusty) beaten track."

Rustical Update

We have been confirmed by the property managers that they always clean the pool in the middle of a stay but, on this occasion, they didn't due to a communication problem with the person in charge of the pool maintenance.

Our stay at the villa was great, far from the madding crowd. If your looking for piece and quiet this is the place most of the time, be prepared for the goat herder walking the herd in front of the gate and the farmer just over the rise tending his fields."

If you wish for a quiet relaxing holiday away from it all – This is the place to choose. But be prepared it is a little off the main road. We had a terrific holiday at this lovely villa, sitting out around the pool reading and taking in the stunning views over the mountains. The Villa is well equipped and spacious enough for four people – all that you could wish for. The local villages – have a number of bars and restaurants to choose from. I found the local people to be incredible friendly and helpful – but be prepared to try out your language skills. The detailed driving instructions provided by Rustical Travel – with photos – took us straight to the villa. This is a Villa that I would love to return to and stay for more than seven days. “Thank you Rustic travel for a fantastic holiday in a tranquil setting”."

The situation of this property and its view to the sea are superb - provided you are happy to be well off the beaten track (as we are). It should be pointed out to guests, however, that, if they want to use any of the facilities of the Hotel Fuente del Sol, it takes half an hour to drive there along steep and twisty roads. We enjoyed our stay very much (in spite of the weather - it was March, after all). Apart from one or two minor suggestions about equipment and the clarity of the instructions for the TV, which we wrote down on the feedback sheet provided in the property, we had no complaints at all."

Rustical Update

To enjoy the hotel facilities while staying at AX14, there is a short way from AX14 to the hotel that is 1.7 kilometres, normally 5 minutes driving. Driving to the hotel by La Joya village takes longer, less than 15 minutes in our experience.

Great accommodation and location, lovely touch of wine and essentials food hamper. Would have liked some local information, map, directions to shops, opening times, local walks directions to hotel for wifi and tennis! Unfortunately we were unable to get the television to work. A visitors book would be a nice touch."

Rustical Update

We agree. For our part, we have now put together a local guide for the area to send to people coming to this villa, and the property managers are working on a housebook to provide the more specific information suggested here.

The house was perfect us. Quiet and secluded location with beautiful views. The house was well equipped with a great bbq and outside dining area. The pool was a good size and the garden was delightful - I'll remember the fresh figs picked from the garden and the scent of rosemary and lavender in the air. Would definitely recommend this property to others."

This property was the best of the four we stayed in during our four week tour of Spain. Whilst it's a bit of a mission to get there it is well worth the drive. The property is surrounded by farm land and elevated so that you can observe majestic scenery from every location on the property including the swimming pool. The privacy is the best attribute and to be able to drive to the beaches on the Malaga coast, small towns like Rhonda and then cities such as Serville all within 2 hous is amazing. The farm house includes every thing you need and its only a short 40minute drive to Antequera to stock up on groceries. The local resort which gives you free access to the internet is fanastic, the staff are extremely helpful and are always full of suggestions, especially two non Spanish speaking Kiwis. Any one wanting to emerse themselves in Rural Andalucia needs to visit this property."

Rustical Update

From 2019 there is now WiFi Internet at the property.
