Overview

Rubbing shoulders with Portugal, the Aracena parklands boast long summer seasons, shady groves, and thick woodlands. For travellers seeking secluded romantic cottages, lively market towns, and vibrant cuisine – this part of Andalucía is one of our favourite spots in rural Spain.

This sweet little four-bedroom cottage sleeps 6 and offers an idyllic setting, perched in the folds of the hills but only a stone’s throw from the bustling market town of Aracena.

Stretched out across one floor, with wraparound semi-wild gardens that add to the charm and a natural swimming pool, families and couples can make the most of purely organic and magical surroundings.

The natural pool is one of the highlights, fed via biological filters, the water is fresh and pure and completely chemical free, making it all the more inviting on sweltering summer days.

On the south of the property is a pretty pergola where breakfasts and sunset drinks can be enjoyed beneath the shade.

On the north you will find a small lawned garden area for the children to play, and private woodland dotted with thick oak and chestnut.

Back inside, the pleasant finca is rustic and unpretentious but with nice touches. It is certainly inviting with its terrace doors, generous kitchen with log burner, and plenty of space for the family to spread out.

We do imagine one couple with children is a perfect match for this cottage since the Master bedroom is superior with its ensuite bathroom and larger double bed.

The whitewashed walls, exposed wooden ceilings, and stone walls capture a sense of traditional Spanish charm. The cosy living and dining room open out to the patio and north side terraces, offering a seamless blend of indoor and alfresco space for soaking up the sunshine.

Only a seven-minute drive you will find the wonderfully rustic Aracena with its meandering hills, Moorish castle, and Cave of Wonders. The wholesome surroundings of the Sierra de Aracena Natural Park are also beguiling with their hillside towns, clear water streams, and rich mulberry forests.

Coen | July | 2022

We stayed at this beautiful stone cottage mid July 2022. It is situated in the middle of the woods, outside Aracena. It offers a very private setting with places with shade throughout the day. You just have to keep moving your chairs to another corner of the garden. We were pleasantly surprised by these corkoaktrees-woods and to see how many birds we could see flying around there such as the many nuthatches, tree-creepers so close and crested tits that joined us in the evening at the pool area. It was one of the perks of this house for us to see and hear so many birds. The naturalpool is very pretty and refreshing too. Do not expect to go swimming but it refreshing and more a place to soak for a few minutes and look down the hill into the green valley. The overflow part of the natural swimming pool attracts all kinds of birds as they come to drink there. it is lovely to sit there for a while and just observe and enjoy the wildlife. We even saw a fox one of these evenings up at the pool. The many plumbtrees seem to provide food for the blue tits, interesting to see them eat there. And then there are the 2 horses strolling by in the distacne now and then, a reassuring sight as well. The house is quite large for just the 2 of us and we used little of it; the living room only to watch the Tour de France a few times . It was mostly the kitchen we used. The kitchen is quite large too and well equipped. We managed to keep the house , which is without airco, cool enough by opening all windows and doors in the house and in our bedroom in the evening to let the cooler breeze in, but not until it has cooled down outisde. I cannot tell whether this would work in the smaller rooms. There are plenty of towns or villages to see and there are plenty of walks in the vicinity. And the supermarkets are close by on the outskirts of Aracena. Carmen speaks good enough English to communicate with you. She will come 2x a week for maintenance of the natural pool but she will let you know when that is. She was most kind and we thoroughly enjoyed are stay here."

The villa was set amongst glorious woodland. It was completely secluded - and yet only 5 minutes drive from two supermarkets and 10 minutes drive from Aracena - a beautiful town with many restaurants and all facilities. We walked from the villa every day, enjoying the wonderful birdsong and spring flowers. The villa itself was spacious and had everything we needed. It was nice to relax and cool off in the small pool at the end of each day. Carmen, the property owner, met us at the beginning of the holiday at the arranged meeting point and took us to the property - which was down a narrow lane so we were very happy with this arrangement. Carmen spoke very good English and made us very welcome, checking that we were ok on a couple of occasions and telling us about things we might like to do in the area. She was a first class host. Thankyou, Carmen!"
