Overview

This established villa is one of six very good, award-winning Aracena holiday homes, set here and there in an expanse of cork oak and chestnut forest, amidst spectacular mountain scenery.

This is top quality accommodation in a gorgeous retreat near Aracena market town. The villa is ideal for people on private holidays who don’t mind greeting others now and then, but who value their intimacy and independence.

The totally tranquil natural environment is a mountain retreat with a touch of class. It’s a place to relax, read, go on long walks, eat well and, above all, to enjoy the comforts of your country home.

The estate is spread out over a large area and the houses are set well part to allow a full measure of privacy.

This two-bedroomed cottage is built on raised ground above the river bank, ensuring excellent views are of the surrounding hills and the green valley.

The villa is made from local stone, fitted out and decorated to high standards. It is spacious, light-filled and superbly furnished.

It's equipped with central underfloor heating (very warm and comfortable in wintertime, when there is a logfire, too).

Bedrooms have solid wood ceilings and bathrooms are beautifully tiled.

The cottage's bow window looks out over lawns to the hills. The living room is wonderfully spacious and has an open fireplace.

There's a kitchen for self-catering and a dining area.

For outdoor dining, you have a furnished terrace with views.

There is an additional common room: a very comfortable, sitting and dining room and a porch with table football, that is open to everyone staying here.

Guests also share use of a swimming and a splendid tennis hard court , set in delightful natural surroundings. Please bring your own tennis equipment.

Facilities include donkey rides, Spanish guitar and Spanish language classes and baby-sitting. Please ask us if you wish to take up any of these opportunities, as some may need booking well in advance.

The Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche is an unbeatable natural area of southern Spain and this particular corner is very special. Relaxation, river walks, visual splendour and gastronomic satisfaction are just a few of the attractions. The hospitable facilities provided by the friendly owners include vegetables from their market garden and tips for the best restaurants in charming little Alajar village, whose whitewashed houses and cobbled streets are only a short walk away.

Alajar village is a delightful 20 mins stroll away. It’s a quiet, attractive village with good restaurants. Interesting excursions will take you to the Peña, or cliff, above Alajar and further afield to Rio Tinto (ride the train through the old mines), Almonaster La Real (visit the mosque within the castle) and Jabugo village (for superlative Iberian cured ham).

For a special day out and a city experience, you have exuberant Seville 90 mins away, Andalucia’s capital and one of the most attractive cities in Spain. Seville's airport is the closest, followed by Jerez and Faro in Portugal, which has many budget flights.

Otherwise, exploring the beautiful Sierra de Aracena with its wild flowers in spring and excellent edible mushrooms in autumn (ask us about special mushroom weeks, when your picked fungi become an ingredient in a dinner at a local restaurant).

The English, Dutch and Spanish-speaking owners live on site and are available to answer your questions and help with local arrangements.

Louise | July | 2014

Beautiful location and accomodation. The owners were kind and welcoming and left an abundant supply of in season fruit and veg. out daily for our use. The turtle is a beautiful house, solid and traditional and we all loved it. The terrace was lovely and the family dogs and cat often called by for a visit. This is a truly unique location - ten minutes on foot takes you to the local village where we enjoyed tapas several nights, walking home on the quiet lanes lit by our torches ! Fantastic floodlit tennis court onsite and lovely pool - decent size and depth for swimming. Each house feels very private and the shared gardens and reception area are all immaculately kept. Highly recommend this property."
