Overview

Just outside Ronda, here is a villa with snazzy and luxurious touches. Decidedly electronically fashionable, it's a place where the security gate opens by remote control, lawns are automatically watered at midnight (so don’t leave your best dress out), the WiFi is tip-top, the mobile cover is good, the TV is smart, and the bathrooms are excellent.

Even the light fittings are innovative. A neatly trimmed, high fir hedge completely encloses the property, located on a quiet lane with a leafy, suburban feel just minutes from Ronda. You feel intimately private whether on the lawn, in the pool, making a barbecue, or on cushioned seating on the shaded terrace.

An antique front door is a nod to Ronda history, but once you’re inside, the rustic element is limited to traditional tiling giving way to a wood floor (very nice), and a cane-ceilinged dining area.

The interior is impressed by the wealth and consistency of its natural lighting, quality furnishings, and equipment. Soft furnishings create a living space with a working fireplace (there’s also central heating in winter), and the dining area is bathed in light from large windows out to the garden.

The kitchen has all mod cons. Two bright bedrooms have bathrooms in a modish open-plan arrangement to the rear of the bed.

A relaxingly darker bedroom has a separate bathroom, mosaic-tiled in adobe colours that complement the oranges and tans throughout the property.

Internal steps (this semi-protected staircase isn't safe for very young children) lead to a TV and DVD room, which is windowed and sports unusual art deco-style seating. This is the one place in the house that needs and has air conditioning.

To one side is the swimming pool, which has a timber surround in its lawned area; on the other is a flower garden and a small goldfish pond. The land then wraps around to a semi-planted orchard that acts as a natural buffer along the rear of the villa.

If the brightly presented villa grabs you, so will its location. Just ten minutes and you're in Ronda, the vibrant Andalusian town of bullfighting and bandits that so excited Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles.

The classic attractions of the bridge over the town's deep chasm, the magnificent old bullring and museums vie these days with sophisticated shopping, restaurants and tapas bars.

The number and variety of Ronda hostelries can be bewildering, and we'll send you our favourite recommendations. For home cooking, we’ll also direct you to easy-to-find nearby shopping.

Hikers will be keen to head over to Grazalema's limestone peaks for fabulous walks in the Natural Park just 30 minutes away, the Genal Valley, or the Sierra de las Nieves. The drive down to the beaches on the Costa del Sol takes an hour.
