Overview

Whether you’re lapping up the silence or birdsong from the swimming pool, cooking up a barbecue, resting in sun or shade on the terraces, gazing down the valley, or wandering off to the village, there’s something to keep you happy any day here.

If you fancy a day out, then Mediterranean beaches are just half an hour down the road and lovely Ronda town is 45 minutes.

The villa is hidden away below cork oak woods, just outside Gaucin village, and close enough to walk there for shopping or an evening out.

On arrival you have plenty of private parking space by the villa and its carob tree.

The first thing that catches your attention when you enter isn’t so much the cheerfully furnished living room as the opening opposite to a fabulous viewing terrace: we walked directly out here and raised eyebrows at the terrific valley views.

The leafy, unpopulated valley on the Ronda side of Gaucin is channelled by streams in wintertime, dry and warm the rest of the year. There are no neighbours nearby and the setting assures all the privacy you could want for your holiday.

The property was built recently and many of its facilities are practically new.

The villa has a personality to match its local Spanish owners: open, attentive and honest, what you see is what there is. It doesn’t cut any corners and we found it a very well-made holiday villa with all you need.

Everything is nicely presented, the kitchen is smart and beds have comfortable mattresses.

The accommodation is conveniently distributed on one floor and arranged around a spacious triple-sofa sitting area, cooly tiled underfoot and beamed overhead.

The lower floor of the villa is simply empty storage space and not used.

We noted the kitchen’s complete equipment and polished stone work surfaces, and we liked the way that sufficient facilities for the full capacity of 8 people have been thought of: the dining area seats everyone without having to squeeze in — and you’ll find plenty of sunbeds at the poolside, in case everyone decides to sunbathe at the same time.

There are four bedrooms, and each one has plenty of wardrobe space.

All in all, the property combines just about all the elements our holidaymakers look for in a wonderfully private rural villa.

The barbecue is a good brick-built one, the main terrace is shaded and furnished — and so is a poolside sitting area, where the owners have been thoughtful enough to add a rattan curtain that you can lower whenever the afternoon sun is strong.

The evening sun eventually goes down beyond the swimming pool, which is naturally enough one of the main attractions here. It’s on a lower level from the house itself, and neither the pool or its sun terrace are overlooked.

For night swims, the path down and the pool itself is illuminated. There are steps in the pool that allow you to sink gently down into the water.

The walk up to the village takes 15 minutes, making the property especially interesting to anyone who wants to enjoy a dinner or drinks out, without having to take the car. As you come into the village, there's a small supermarket and a café-bar.

Walking is best morning or evening, being hot at siesta time in summer, when shops are closed in any case. It’s uphill to the village, so downhill, of course, coming home...

If you drive, the track from Gaucin village is steepish, but a normal car is all you need.

One of the first bars you’ll find in the village serves good tapas: try the gambas al pilpil (spicy prawns), and we have other recommendations for eating out that we’ll send you, before you travel, in our detailed Gaucin Guide.

Beaches at the coast 30 minutes away are another popular reason for choosing Gaucin, and so are walks in the hilly surroundings and a visit to beautiful Ronda via an attractive mountain road.

Richard | September | 2024

Accommodation excellent with beautiful views over the valley. Hosts were fantastic, responding quickly to any queries and making us feel very welcome. Food and drink that was waiting for us when we arrived set the tone and we was a great sign of what was to come."

Stunning position overlooking the valley. Lovely balcony for outside meals. Swimming pool with drinks fridge and toilet meant trips back to the house weren’t necessary. Only downside was the difficulty parking if you have more than one vehicle and no air conditioning meant that despite the fans provided, the nights in August were hot."

We had a very relaxing third stay at this house. We love the peaceful rural location yet the village of Gaucin is within walking distance. We did all our food shopping in Gaucin and there is good choice of restaurants/cafes.The pool is excellent and as it is set below the house we especially appreciate the pool bathroom and sheltered eating area complete with fridge The gardens are kept beautifully and the house was thoroughly cleaned after the first week of our stay. This was our second booking with Rustical this year and and, as usual, the service was excellent."

We loved this property, we were a party of 6 and stayed in August for 2 weeks. Upon arrival the drive to the villa from the main road was daunting but we soon got used to it and it was worth it for the location and the views from the house! The house was so well equipped it was like being at home, the only drawback was no air conditioning and as the weather was 30-40 degrees day and night we had the fans on full time! We had a couple of issues during our stay (dead cat and wasp nest) which were fixed immediately by Antonio and Alberta- nothing was too much trouble. The Pool was cleaned weekly and Antonio came in after the 1st week to freshen up the property, bedding and towels. There was so much space indoors and out which was great for our family-the pool area has a fridge and bathroom, the BBQ area has washing up facilities and another fridge, a great area for evening sunsets! Steep walk up to the town, and steep walk up from the pool so wouldn't recommend for anyone with mobility needs. We adopted the local black cat who made herself at home- please look after her! Gaucin is a beautiful town with great eateries, 40 minute drive to Estepona and Ronda for days out and beaches. Enjoy- it is truly wonderful!"

This was the best Villa we have stayed in over many years of holidaying in Andalucía. The Villa is very comfortable, extremely well equipped, with stunning views across the Sierras de Ronda. The pool is beautiful as we really appreciated all the loungers, shaded area, fridge and shower room. The weather was gloriously hot whilst we were there but the Villa is cool and the fans helped at night. We also loved the large balcony with dining table and chairs, and the sofa and armchair - it suited all three generations of our family. At first it seemed like the walk up the farm track to Gaucín would be too much for 80+ grandad, but it is actullay very manageable, but take a torch for return journeys in the evenings! Antonia was very warm and welcoming and responded very quickly when we had an issue with the toaster and coffee maker. We had a superb holiday and highly recommend this villa and Rustical."

This villa was in the most beautiful setting, with wonderful views down the valley. It has all the amenities we needed, and we loved sitting out preparing dinner overlooking the valley on the balcony. Rustical were , as always, extremely helpful and easy to book with."

The position of the finca is superb with the most stunning views beautiful landscaped gardens and pool/pool area. The track down to the property could use some upkeep but wasn’t too bad as long as you drive very slowly to avoid stones being thrown up. The house itself is comfortable if a little dated, the dishwasher didn’t work properly and the family bathroom shower cubicle was very small. But we loved staying here, the fabulous covered terrace off the living room was a favourite spot for meals and drinks or just a peaceful place to read. The fridge and eating/sitting area around the pool was also fabulous and having a toilet and shower down there was so useful. We would definitely recommend this finca would certainly stay there again if we return to Gaucin. Many thanks Rustical Travel and thanks too to Antonia Alberto who made sure our stay was comfortable and that both the house and the pool were spotlessly clean!"

The service from Rustical Travel was also exemplary, and all queries were answered in a friendly prompt manner, even though we had to make unplanned itinerary changes less than 48 hours before travel. Excellent and straightforward booking through Rustical Travel. The house is very comfortable and well equipped, the pool area is just amazing, fantastic large pool, nice shaded area, useful with loo and fridge there too. The views from the property are just stunning, lots of wildlife to see as well. The village is lovely, with little places to have tapas and a drink, the supermarket is fine, though we tended to stock up when down by the coast which is only 30 mins away, the beach at Sabanillas was lovely, not too crowded and really good chiringuitas to eat at. It's not really walking distance from the village, it can be done but it's a good 20 minutes walk up a very hot dusty lane. The contact Antonia was very helpful and friendly, we had a wonderful stay."

We had a great experience at this house. Everything comfortable and clean. The view of the valley was great from the balcony. You could actually train for the Olympics in the pool which was fab. I was worried about the lack of air-con as it was 32C+ in the day but actually it cooled down enough at night and the fans were fine. They had a fridge at the pool and the BBQ area which I thought was a great idea for storing beer! Not sure I'd walk to town but its probably nicer to do in cooler weather. I should mention the wildlife - bee-eaters, Griffon vultures, booted eagles, wild boar and a preying mantis hunting for butterflies. Great week overall."

Have stayed at this villa before in 2014 so knew I would love it. Brilliant extra toilet and shower downstairs by the pool now! Can't beat the view as far as I am concerned. No air con, was 40 degrees one day but the pool helped! Also is a fan in every room. Best of all though, the hostess Antonia, her husband and extended family who helped us no end when we had transfer problems with companies. Honestly, she is an angel sent from heaven. Antonia went out of her way for us completely and we will always be grateful to her for that. Would be back in a heartbeat, absolutely beautiful villa and location with excellent facilities."

Rustical Update

Although it is true that the access to the property is steep, we consider that a jeep is not necessary, and an ordinary car is enough to manage the access. We last visited the property on May 2019 and an ordinary car was perfectly fine for the access.

We thought the property was absolutely fantastic. The villa and pool areas were beautiful and the villa was stocked with everything we could possibly have needed for the week. It felt as though the owners had really put a lot of thought into what people might need - from fridges at the pool and barbecue terrace, to the plastic cups for around the pool. The rural location down a dusty track suited us perfectly, although we didn't walk into Gaucin village as it is quite an uphill hike on the way and would have been dark by the time we had headed back. For that reason, when we ate out, we drove."

Hallo! Apologies for not being able to reply sooner. Yes, we had a wonderful holiday in this very lovely spacious and comfortable villa that had everything we could have wanted! And we loved the pool area where we spent most of our time...Phew!....was it hot!! Great to have the fridge there - which we kept well stocked with wine and beer and watermelon! And so nice to also have the tables and chairs to sit at while being protected from the sun by the rattan shades. Loved the sun shades also, around the sunbeds....and the flowers and lemon and lime trees! Great location with beautiful little Gaucin town just a walk away....yes! We did the walk almost daily and in the evenings!! Never bothered with the car. Any downsides? Not really, apart from the cats who were a pest- annoyingly hanging around the front door 24/7 and trying to get in through the kitchen windows which we had to keep closed. We did NOT feed them, but if other guests do, then its difficult to keep them away. But it's a small point and didn't spoil our wonderful week. Our key holder lady (Antonia?) was so nice and welcoming, and had left wine and fruit for us! Such a nice touch. Thanks also for the cot and high chair! All in all we had a great time....and hope to travel with you again one day. Kind regards, Jennie"

Cats aren't allowed into the property, but some guests occasionally feed them or let them in, causing the cats to wander around. The property manager informed us that she tells guests not to feed them or invite them in.

We were very happy with the service provided by Rustical Travel and the information about arrival and things to do in the locality. The local caretaker was helpful and welcoming. The house was spacious and well fitted out, with comfortable rooms. The pool area and outdoor seating areas were particularly good and we enjoyed spending time there. It was in a beautiful situation with the village about 20 minutes walk away and pleasant walking from the house. Unfortunately, as the weather was unexpectedly very cold for the time of year, we found the heating inadequate. The only heat source was a wood fire in the living room, so the house was very difficult to warm. It would be worth pointing this out in the information. We were advised that the pool may be cold (we didn't mind this) but didn't know the villa was without proper heating."

There is no heating system advertised for this property (only the fireplace in the living room). Normally this property is not rented during the winter, but in 2018 the weather was colder than usual during the early Spring.

Hi We absolutely loved our holiday in this villa. We loved Gaucin too and made almost daily trips, usually on foot, to the village. We are busy planning a return visit for 2018. The house has everything that we needed. The kitchen is well stocked. The pool is fabulous. Having little fridges at the pool and the BBQ was a very thoughtful and practical idea. We did notice that the pool filter did not always seem to be working. We were thinking what could we possibly say to you that you could do to make it even better and here are some ideas: We were two couples; one with 3 daughters. Possibly moving the double bed into the second room facing the valley? Only so that the adults had the double beds and the spectacular views. We also thought that having a stock of firewood for the BBQ would have been great. We ate at the BBQ area most nights as the table on the balcony off the living room was not big enough for 7 people. Possibly have one here that could seat 8 would be a good idea. But we are serious in that we are looking at 2 weeks in August 2017. We really did love the place. Antonia is a gem too. We did not realise that we could have made contact with her if need be. Regards and best wishes Pat, Gordon, Sarah, Dan, Sophie, Lizzie and Katie You are the best travel company that I have ever had to deal with."

Rustical Update

We have been informed by the property manager that there was a problem with the fuse box that made the power for the pool filter to go on and off occasionally, but she informed us it has been fixed. We have also passed the property managers your suggestions.

We had an absolutely brilliant time at the villa. It is a great house, well-equipped (e.g.fridges by pool and barbeque as well as kitchen), with lots of different spaces to relax. The pool was a great size and lovely to swim in. Well-supported by Antonia, who responded really quickly to any query, but was also not intrusive in any way. We were also able to walk in to the village pretty easily (takes about 20 mins), and found good eating places, and enough decent shops for us. Brilliant views all around. We also did a long walk from the villa around the valley and had a fantastic day. The support from Rustical before the holiday was superb, including warnings about local roadworks, which was invaluable. Thank you. Tips - initially the evenings and nights were chilly - take a fleece if you're going early May. -We were driving in our own car, and I did find the drive down the short track very bumpy with lots of potholes. I got used to it. Generally the driving was great."

A fabulous villa in a great location. The villa facilities are wonderful - a large pool and plenty of outdoor space for barbecues and enjoying the spectacular views across the valley. Gaucin is a lovely village with a great atmosphere and plenty of places to eat out. Would highly recommend this villa for others looking for a great family holiday."

We had the loveliest week here in October half term. It was just an hour's drive from Gibraltar, and Antonia could not have been more welcoming, despite the fact that our flight was delayed which made us quite late. It was warm enough to swim and sunbathe and cool enough to make lighting a fire attractive. The wood supplied was plentiful, and there were matches and firelighters... in fact the house generally couldn't have been better equipped. The house is comfortable and spacious, there are 3 huge sofas around the fire, and the pictures do not do the views justice. The track to Gaucin is through woodland and is a pleasant walk. Gaucin itself is a delight to explore - you could wander for hours along the quiet streets, blissfully almost entirely free of traffic. The walk up to the castle is also lovely, and the views are amazing. We had several easy and inexpensive meals out; our favourite was La Esquinita. And we never went to a big supermarket - Ruiz Galan in Gaucin had everything we needed. We also felt very well looked after; when my son got stuck in the bathroom because the lock broke Antonia had someone come to help us within 15minutes, which we really appreciated. Would definitely come here again!"

We spent an idyllic two weeks at this beautiful finca – truly one of the best holiday accommodations we've experienced. Close to the village but it feels so secluded and private in those stunning surroundings. Rustical Travel provided excellent customer service from the outset and Antonia who meet us at the finca was very helpful and friendly. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and again after Antonia came to change the linens and clean once again midway through our holiday. The whole finca is furnished with everything we could have wanted: the kitchen is very well equipped, there is plenty of space inside and out (we were five adults) and the fridges at the pool and bbq area were great additions. The pool and garden area is even more stunning than it looks online (if that's possible!) – it was very hot for most of the time we were in Spain and we swam every day. Excellent bbq area for long dinners. Gaucin is a beautiful, friendly village with great restaurants and tapas bars – we were spoiled for choice. The finca is 15 mins walk to the village but the track is very steep – it was not manageable for two of the older members of our group. Our solution: drive them up to the top of the track, return to the finca with the car and then walk up to meet them. Torches for the walk home were a must for us. So many sleepy white villages to explore around the area. The roads are very windy – not for the faint hearted! All in all, a perfect holiday – would love to return."

An absolutely fabulous villa, can't recommend this highly enough. The villa itself is lovely, even better inside than the photos show. The pool area and the gardens are stunning as are the views of the mountains. The villa is in a really peaceful and secluded location, but then only a 10-15 min walk into Gaucin where you have shops, a small supermarket and some lovely little bars and restaurants - so the best of both worlds. The villa is also in a perfect position to explore the local area. Ronda was well worth a visit, as were the Cueva de la Pileta, and the beach is only a 30 minute drive away. We had a fantastic holiday here and would highly recommend it. Many thanks to Rustical Travel for arranging everything so smoothly!"

We were two families staying here and it couldn't have been better. The accommodation was spacious and the numerous outside areas gave a lot of flexibility. A large pool which was wonderful. Everything had been thought of even a fridge by the pool and BBQ area. Toni the key holder was really helpful and on the end of the phone if anything was needed. Gaucin was an easy 10 minute walk away up a track which was a nice option for a meal out. Can't recommend this property highly enough!"

The villa was amazing the views were spectacular. A lovely touch having the welcome pack when we got there the meats and fruit were lovely as was the delicious bottle of wine. The villa was very clean and maintained well. The pool was very inviting especially after a day in the hot sun! The only negative I would comment about was the track leading down to the villa it was very rough and bumpy not too good on the car suspension! I would definitely be looking at booking another villa with you again in the future. Thank you Rustical Travel."

Had wonderful week in this beautiful villa with my husband .Amazing views from the balcony and totally secluded pool with fabulous lounging areas all around the garden . Uphill walk into Gaucin is very pleasant and definetly feels like you have done a little exercise after lazy mornings by the pool. Local people in Gaucin are all so friendly and we had lots of delicious food in tapas bars and restaurants. Went on a private guided walk in the cork forest with local guide Paul ONeil which I would highly recommend . Information pack received from Rustical travel before trip was very helpful and definetly recommend you stock up at Supermarket on way to villa from airport. Trip to Ronda was worth day trip too! Thankyou again and look forward to our next booking , Angela , Glasgow, Scotland"

The villa was fantastic with beautiful views. I would have some concern over there being only one exit in the event of a fire. I would suggest a fire escape be installed toward the back of the property. The walk was a little longer than expected and we found it unsuitable for the summer months. The pool area was lovely and kept very well We found the housekeeper very helpful and courteous."

Firstly I must praise Rustical Travel for their professionalism and support when booking our holiday. I have booked villas with various companies over the past years and Rustical Travel is by far the best. The information that you are given when booking is excellent and the travel pack that is emailed to you a couple of weeks before you travel is full of extremely useful information, their service is exemplary, I will definitely be booking through them again and recommending them to friends. The villa was just beautiful, there was only 2 of us so we had loads of room, the terrace overlooking the pool and the glorious mountains was wonderful to sit out on at any time of the day. The pool was fabulous, a great size for swimming and great to have a fridge nearby for drinks, lunch etc. The views are glorious, you would be hard pushed to find a better site for a holiday villa. The village of Gaucin is about 15-20 minutes walk away, some of it uphill but worth going in and having tapas in the square with the fountain in it. A lovely villa so much so we want to book again for next year. A couple of small issues; there is, coming from across the mountains directly opposite the villa, a pack of dogs which at times are continuously barking, I'm not sure if they are hunting dogs or not but it does spoil the tranquillity and peace of the place at times. Also having no back entrance to go to the pool, you have to leave via the front door all the time, but that is not too much of an issue to be honest. To sum up, a lovely place to holiday in, the owners are very lucky!"

Rustical Update

As of February 2018, there haven't been any further comments about barking dogs near the property.

A very comfortable villa in a pretty wooded valley with good views of El Hacho and distant mountains, but rather limited horizons and the best views are undoubtedly from the village, especially if you want to see migrating raptors and the African coast! One tip to tell visitors: to avoid problems with the electric gate, check for obstructions when closing / opening it, especially stones in the roller channel. We had no problems with Rustical Travel and would happily use you again."

We visited this property for a week in early September. As soon as we arrived we knew a week was never going to be long enough, the pictures on the website are good but really don't do this property justice. We were instantly hit by the beauty, peace and tranquility of the villa and it's location. We were instantly made to feel welcome by Antonia who did a great job of showing us around and the unexpected little touches were very welcome. The villa is spacious, airy and very comfortable. We were almost spoilt for choice with areas to relax. The balcony became a favourite for early morning/late evening and the barbecue terrace was also well used. The fridges on the barbecue terrace and by the pool are a really nice touch. The pool area is sublime. We spent many an hour simply lazing by or swimming in the pool. I could have stayed for a month or more and not got bored with that. Gaucin is a delightful little town and the townsfolk extremely friendly. Make sure you walk up to the castle, the view is astounding. Our favourite restaurant was La Fructuosa, make sure you visit in daylight, sitting on the terrace with a view of Gibralter and beyond is unprecedented. A visit to the fish market is also a must, good fun and superb, well priced fresh fish. If you haven't already got the message, we absolutely loved this villa, the village and the surrounding areas. I have a strong suspicion we will return only next time for much, much longer."

This property was just what we were looking/hoping for, far enough away from town for peace and quiet, close enough to town so as not to have to drive (although we did drive up the track and leave the car at the top). Our experience started with a very nice welcome pack which included a wine that we continued to drink more of throughout our stay. The property is high up, all on one level with views of the valley and mountain beyond. It has all the facilities required for a comfortable stay and plenty of room for two families. Only two slight negatives, the pool was too cold (we stayed 20th - 27th September and would have happily paid extra for it to have been heated) and also we think previous residents may have allowed the local cats inside and on the soft furnishings. We would definitely recommend this property."

Rustical Update

We're very aware that this week in September was unseasonably cold (everywhere in Spain). It was much warmer in October. The pool doesn't have heating so this wouldn't have been an option. Cats aren't allowed into Rustical Travel villas, but just occasionally a guest might invite one in and then it can cause a problem for holidaymakers coming after them.

We enjoyed an idyllic fortnight in this fantastic villa with our two children aged 8 and 7. The location and aspect could not have been better and the pool was perfect - clean, cool but not cold and with amazing views in every direction. Not overlooked either which made it even more relaxing for us. The villa itself was very clean, well furnished and accommodated all our needs for self catering. Very well thought out. Lovely housekeeper too who did a great job of keeping the villa in good order. Gaucin is a friendly village with great places to eat and drink and the views of the valley as you walk around it are astoundingly beautiful. We can't wait to go back! The service from Rustical has also been of a very high quality with a lot of thought put into the information provided to help you travel to the villa and enjoy the locality.Thank you."

We hadn't expected it to be quite as wonderful as it was, so thank you! The location is spectacular, right up at the top of the mountains and looking out into a peaceful bowl of trees and scrub. We hadn't expected to be able to see eagles from the balcony, or a crowd of housemartins, or bats coming a twilight to skim over the pool. Besides this, the house is well equipped, comfortable, and absolutely clean. You have to be ready to do the dusty walk up into town: I enjoyed this ( a 10 or 15 minute pull uphill into town) as our only regular exercise, but sometimes the kids didn't want to do it. An unusual and wonderful place, though."

We had a really great holiday. The house is generously sized for four as is the pool which we thought was really excellent. It is situated in a peaceful valley with amazing views from the veranda and the pool. The shops and restaurants in Gaucin were friendly and close enough to walk to. Wow, what a fantastic holiday. The property is perfect, a real home from home and surpassed all our expectations. If I was to be very picky I would say some of the kitchen equipment could do with updating e.g the knives and the bottle opener but that is all and we managed with what was there and did a lot if cooking and BBQ ing. We just loved all the different areas to socialise and spent many evenings on the BBQ terrace. The house was spotlessly clean, comfortable and homely . The pool was one of the cleanest I have ever been in and the location is completely amazing and very close to the town . We booked the local chef Maria to deliver a paella on the first night which was gorgeous , thank you for the recommendation. I also found your company very easy to deal with, always answering my questions promptly with a very friendly manner. You also sent lots of information which we found very useful indeed. There was even a welcome box of food essentials when we arrived. It's these little extra touches that make a big difference. Thank you so much for such a great holiday. I will definitely use your company again and recommend you to my friends. Kindest regards"

Hi We had a wonderful holiday at this villa, it was very spacious, very clean with lovely sheets and towels, this is the most important thing for me! and had all the facilities you need, apart from some mugs for us British to have our tea! The information sent to us before our holiday was invaluable and was used to visit the local attractions and the restaurants we went to. Best we have had from any other company. The villa was as you stated was down a very rough track, not for drivers who may be a bit nervous and extra worry when in a hire car. Once at the villa it is fine but access in and out of the drive was tricky, my husband got the hang of it as time went on during our stay. The pool area was great, views were fab, One comment a couple of comfortable chairs on the balcony area off the lounge would be nice as we sat out there a lot to relax and take in the view but was a bit uncomfortable on the iron dining chairs. Other than that would recommend the villa and yourselves. Please pass on our thanks to the owners who obviously take great care and pride in their villa. Thank you very much."
