If you are looking for a genuine northern Spain experience and a real sense of being off-the-beaten-track, while still having plenty of Asturias' highlights at striking distance away, then this property may be exactly what you are seeking.
Despite being located in a hamlet with no services, it only takes a very short drive to get to restaurants, bars and most facilities.
The setting gives you the feeling of being in a beautifully secluded place right in the middle of nowhere while, in fact, a 5 minute drive will get you on a fast road that promptly takes you to beaches, fishing villages, the beautiful historic Oviedo town or the lively coastal town of Gijon. The number of major interest points you can get to in less than 30 minutes is excellent.
Luckily, this main road to the coast during peak season is less busy than any of the links from busier holiday areas, making it all even more stress-free.
And if you come during the low season, benefit from local bars and restaurants that offer tasty, homemade food at reasonable prices.
The spot is genuine and the local lifestyle is traditional and friendly. Be sure to make some time for local living during your stay, and discover its uniqueness for yourself. We certainly found it exciting, such as visiting a nearby organic farm where you can get seasonal produce full of flavour (ask us for advice!).
As you can see from the pictures, the property enjoys large, very well-kept flat gardens that children adore. Active families will be in their element, especially once they discover that the gardens can transform into a large football field with goals on opposite sides.
In addition to the large garden area and the main house, there are three other buildings in this finca: the guest house or annexe, a storage house and an open garden casita (called locally "caseto") which is one of the highlights of this holiday home, designed as an open gathering place for some fantastic outdoor living.
The annexe offers one bedroom, a living space and a bathroom - simple yet perfect for comfortably accommodating 2 extra people (increasing the property´s capacity to 6 adults and 4 children). Smaller parties can also opt to use this annexe if the main house´s sleeping arrangements aren´t suitable or if certain guests prefer some independence.
Owned by a Madrilian family who totally fell in love with this area some decades ago, you can tell that lots of care, thought and attention has been put into their home which is available for holiday rentals since 2019.
After all these years the property owners have become real experts in the region. They claim that, to this day, they never cease to discover new Asturian treasures; it is not surprising that they regard it as Spain´s top holiday destination… as do so many other Spaniards who simply would not disagree.
Although the hot season is shorter here than in the south of the country, these property owners still wanted to make the most of their sunny summer days and decided to build a pool. It is not very common to find villas with pools in Asturias since the season usually runs from June to September only, so we are pleased to have a holiday home with this facility at the heart of Green Spain on our portfolio.
The pool area, which can be gated, was created with total privacy in mind as can be appreciated by the dense, natural screen of hazelnut bushes that surrounds it. Although you are on the edge of a small village and some other houses may see part of the gardens, you will still have a good sense of privacy. In autumn 2018 new bushes on some edges of the gardens were growing fast and providing some more seclusion.
The main house inside is bright, uncomplicated but stylish, and the open plan living area that looks into the gardens is very attractive. The main dining area seats 6 people comfortably but there is an additional kitchen table for at least 4 more guests. The garden casita is open to the gardens so this is an excellent spot for al fresco meals.
All bedrooms in the main house are on the 1st floor. There is superior master bedroom with en-suite facilities and large windows with pretty views. The built-in double bunk beds are in a room which we offer for children; the upper beds accessed by a ladder are perhaps not great for very small children who will be better off on the lower beds.
Although at the back of the gardens there is a private, designated parking area, parking at the front of the house and next to the main door may be easier and more practical.
All in all, the Rustical team finds this country property a great base for holidays in Green Spain. It works for guests who enjoy both days out and being able to stay in and relax. It is a place where you could easily spend two weeks and discover something different each day.
Although the number of things you can do within a 25min drive is superb, add some extra time to your planning and meet the fascinating Picos de Europa – the verticality of these mountains will not leave you feeling indifferent.
Welcome to the magic of Asturias!
