Overview

Before visiting a property for the first time, our inspections team first locates a satellite image of the estate to get an idea of what to expect in terms of privacy. The location of this property looked promising, with what seemed like only a large forest surrounding the villa... but when we arrived we were also pleasantly surprised.

We came across a site with a very high degree of tranquillity, excellent privacy with no neighbours nearby and yet views that are to die for; certainly a fantastic holiday spot.

Owned by a local family, they seemed knowledgeable about guest comfort and what clients normally expect from a rural holiday. As such, the house is well-equipped and our team therefore felt confident adding it to our listings. It doesn’t fall into our luxury collection for it lacks in certain sophistication, but it does nevertheless have high comfort and an exclusive feel to it.

The house itself is a new build, granting modern country living with high standard materials throughout. It is surrounded by long, wide terraces and porches that look towards the amazing views; most indoor spaces have French doors opening to the outside, allowing for a perfect blend between indoor and outdoor living.

Bedrooms are inviting and good standard as well, all with their ensuite bathrooms and independent air-conditioning. Three of the four benefit from direct access to the gardens or terraces, and while no bedroom particularly stands out from the rest, the master bedroom is the only one that boasts a king-sized bed and an ensuite bathroom with both a bathtub and a walk in shower.

Some nice, homey touches throughout the house prove that the owners pay good attention to detail. Heated towel railings and a tumble dryer are two facilities you are certainly not used to seeing in villas in Andalucia.

Outdoors, the property is fantastic thanks to its surrounding, well-kept gardens. When we visited in September 2019, although the landscape was still young, it was already looking gorgeous, yet it will most likely only enrich as time goes by and plants mature. The property owner is passionate about gardens, and this is evident.

We particularly liked the emphasis in outdoor furnishings, allowing for different choices and ways of enjoying the impressive outdoors... whether you want have a meal, take a siesta or simply read a book.

Our team wasn´t present at nightfall during their visit, but it is certainly on our list of to do´s. The owners assured us that the gardens become ever more vibrant at night as the lighting makes for a dreamy atmosphere – on clear moonless skies, the sheer amount of stars in the sky will amaze you...

Being in such a wonderfully private location with a great off-the-beaten-track feel, may sway you to forget that you are actually in one of the most popular destinations in southern Spain.

In under a 10 minute drive you will find yourself in Gaucin, a pretty whitewashed village overlooking the Mediterranean with plenty of good bars, restaurants and shops.

Colmenar, another worthwhile town not far from the house offers some exceptional sites, including wild swimming spots and a train station that links to the coast or to Ronda town.

For those who like impressive historical towns: yes, Ronda is a must and we guarantee it won´t disappoint!

And for a feel of the coastal breeze, you will only need to venture out for less than 40 minutes, for sandy beaches and fairly-priced fish bars.

The great location, villa size and facilities"

Good morning and thank you for your email. My children and I loved the property! After booking 2.75 years ago it was great to holiday abroad again. The view, greenery, and the peace and quiet was worth the wait and travel from the U.K.! A few comments: a clock on the wall in the hallway or kitchen would be beneficial as would a few extra chopping boards. The initial bit of driveway leaving the house before the cattle grid is difficult to navigate and I would have thought concrete would help! Paying via TransferWise to Rustical Travel should be considered. Paying via your email the non sterling transaction fee was £45.11 whereas if made via TransferWise was £6.38. I look forward to your thoughts please!"

The villa is in a beautiful location with gorgeous views of the valley below. The villa itself is well laid out with plenty of space for everyone. The kitchen is well stocked. There are a few extra things the kitchen could do with. One or two extra chopping boards, another tray, a measuring jug. A new kettle (the one in the villa pours water everywhere when you try and use it. A baking tray for the oven. The wasps both on the patio and round by the pool meant eating outside or drinking round the sofa area was not always pleasant. The shaded area by the seated area was attractiving a lot of wasps and hornets. My son had a nasty sting. The mosquitoes around the shaded area around the pool made seating there had to enjoy. On the patio again eating and relaxing was made had to do even with us all sprayed candles light and burners going. They still seemed to bit us. Watching the eagles in the afternoon became an enjoyable treat. Gaucin is a beautiful village with lots of supermarts and a lovely deli run by 2 ladies selling cakes, bread, salad. I would highly recommend the lemon cheesecake and the croissants. Well worth a visit. Having coffee outside the police station was another favourite thing to do."

The villa and location is absolutely stunning. In the villa information I think it would help if you explained that the driveway is really steep in places and not suitable for older, less abled people, unless they have a car. Also, having a car is essential as a local taxi service no longer exists. It really is an amazing place."

I appreciate that there’s been no income for the owners for a couple of years but perhaps invest in some new pool side furniture would help - sunloungers and fixed in umbrellas. Also a stock take of the kitchen, throw away electrical things that don’t work and check for a good spread of sharp knives, crockery and serving bowls, glasses etc perhaps so it’s all matching so it would look smarter. The house was fabulous though and very comfortable and we would happily book again."

It is hard to describe the pure unfettered beauty of this house. The setting is remote, so not another house in sight and the most unspoiled views from every angle, to the back, mountains, the sides, forested slopes and the front, a deep cutting valley with layers of distant mountains beyond…I kid you not, you will just sit/stand there for hours marvelling at the majestic distant views. The gardens are so beautifully kept by the owners, full, lush and mature, creating a sleepy blend into the surrounding hills. The pool is great, deep, large and clean with loads of comfy sunbeds and shade for many. The upper terrace by the house works wonderfully, with no less than four seating areas, two of which are dining. The BBQ is sensibly tucked around the corner with an 8-seater table (about) and the comfy wicker chill zone is just too pleasant to describe. The place just goes on and on, offering and offering. To the front is a splendid traditional courtyard complete with orange and lemon trees and a traditional washing well. We had so much choice through the week, we never took advantage of secluded dining there, perhaps in hotter months it would provide a cooler setting. All four bedrooms are huge and ensuite, three of which have terraces, the two upper rooms share a massive terrace that has enhanced views of the valley. There is a cavernous sitting room, which we hardly used, but provided a cool retreat for those seeking humungous sofas in which to sink. The house has a large decadent feel, that London real estate can only lust after…there’s even a sofa on the landing!!! Everything was so well established, the layout and design worked so simply but so effectively, everything was so clean and well looked after, although not your highest tech, perfectly suited to the glorious environment. Another touch which was very appreciated was the use of condiments, washing and dishwasher powder, toilet paper, washing up liquid and so on. The approach to this spectacular house is down a long and winding road, some concrete sections but predominantly gravel and steep and sharp at times. We have a good-sized car, but the track was a bit of a challenge on the ascents. Going down is straightforward, as it just takes gentle driving, but ascending proved slightly harder, especially as the week progressed and the track seemed to deteriorate slightly at the bottom. It is part concrete and mainly hardcore, so where the two meet, worn dips develop and get a bit fruity. That said, we found a simple technique of gathering a reasonable speed from the bottom by the house and maintain it up, taking the bends wide and confidently. Whatever you do, don’t let this put you off as the rewards of this spectacular oasis are manyfold. I could ramble on for ever about this house, but it really is one of the most magical experiences we have had in over 40 years of visiting Spain and we thank the owners for allowing us to sample the magic of their exquisite finca. Gaucin, 10 minutes down the road, was lovely. And we managed to drag ourselves out of the villa to have a couple of dinners out, but it was always great to come back to the house! We’d like to also thank Javier and Maria at Rustical Travel for their uber professional approach and wonderful communications. It made the whole process a breeze and we would definitely use them again – thank you."

Beautiful, comfortable, incredibly well equipped for a rental. If you want some quiet time, this is the perfect house. Warm welcome by Antonia. A lot of wildlife to observe. Some hornets flying around but they did not bother us and don't seem to be interested by us at all. The access is ok, but maybe, the first bend when leaving the house, could do with some mending for a smoother experience. Already thinking about going back."

Stunning location with breath taking views, well equipped apart from a few items in the kitchen like a good sized chopping board a pair of scissors, one of the bedrooms had no air conditioning at all (this is unacceptable) and the barbecue was not clean therefore we had to clean it before use (we cleaned it after our use for the next guests). Wasps by the pool became an issue for the children and the complete lack of Wifi was a huge disappointment as the villa is advertised with this a facility. There were members of our party that needed to continue to work and this proved impossible meaning long unwanted trips to the coast for internet service. I mention all these issues to you in this private message as our written feedback in the visible house guest book was more positive."

Rustical Update

Our team followed this up in October 2021 and we were confirmed that the compressor for the AC in the bedroom reported was recharged. The property manager also confirmed that the fact that the barbecue wasn't clean was a mistake and they will do their best to avoid this happening again. In regards to WiFi, there were problems with tis service for almost two weeks in two areas close to Gaucin municipality, we understand this is not a recurrent issue.

Beautiful house and the surroundings amazing, totally secluded with the most beautiful views. The property is very well looked after, very clean and very well equipped. The only downfall; Unfortunately there were many wasps around the pool area, and sometimes around the dining table, this did rather spoil things to a certain extent, two of us actually got stung. I appreciate this is very difficult to do anything about, but I wonder if there is a nest near the pool as there were so many. As far as booking with you was concerned the service I got from Javier was very helpful and professional and always prompt. I would definitely book with you again in the future. Thank you! Kind regards Christine"

My family and I spent a wonderful week in this well equipped villa. It has an ample pool and a lovely well kept garden. It’s position at the head of a valley offers you great panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. It’s really peaceful and quiet as the nearest road is quite a distance away. If you are looking for peace and tranquillity, this is the villa for you. It’s a place where you can truly disconnect from the world."

Well maintained. Vertraging was there. Beautiful surroundings. Very private. Only thing was that the cleaning ladies came by unannounced."

Rustical Update

In September 2021 the property managers ask us to request to leave one full day between reservations for the 2022 season, this way they make sure they have enough time to clean between reservations.

This was a lovely villa, really comfy, gorgeous pool and setting. Some plastic plates, cups and cutlery would be good for kids / pool side. Some of the toilets didn’t flush and you had to hose waste down the loo. Maybe a box of toys or some stuff to play with in the pool would be good."

Rustical Update

In September 2020 property managers confirm that the toilet flush was fixed by the plumber. We are also informed there is some plasticware for outdoor use but they may need to point out where it can be found.

This is a fantastic property with huge rooms and so much space that you could tuck yourself away and unwind. The pool area is stunning and is well equipped for activity or just lounging in either the open or covered areas. The kitchen was excellent with good storage and the gas hob was welcomed and well used. The BBQ was also excellent. What we loved the most was the diversity in the sitting areas you could choose from with some in the sun and others in the shade. We will definitely come back to this villa and would recommend it to party’s of four or even more. Thank you"
