Sinopsis

Beautiful remote location. Surprised that quite a few basic amenities were not available - things like paper towels or napkins, chopping knives, laundry soap, measuring cups, coffee maker (pour over or drip). I mentioned a few items to the host and she brought them over - which was nice- but surprised they were not stocked. Still had a nice stay. House was quirky but charming."

This house and the time we spent there was truly memorable! We’d love to come back and stay again. The house is nestles in trees, greenery and hills. Due to it’s private location we enjoyed a time far away from the hustle and bustle from civilisation but did have lots of opportunities to visit supermarkets and restaurants close by. The property managers and the house owners supported us in every need and provided excellent service. There’s a warm family feeling in the house. We didn’t have any problems with the electricity or warm water. We were super thankful that we could extend the amount of people we initially asked for to stay. Dogs and Babys have been welcome. The views are stunning, the rooms are nice, clean and cosy. Thank you so much for having us!"

Lovely location, tranquil with plenty to see in the area, supplies only 30 minutes away. Not sure how adventurous other guests might be but it might be worth a warning that access to some areas on roads/tracks is difficult without 4x4 and good ground clearance - drainage channels can be challenging as form deep ruts. Fantastic place and really relaxing"

Although this was a delightful house in a beautiful area which is perfect for trekking it was not ideal for dogs. The garden areas were great but no fencing and as I had taken my 3 Salukis it wasn’t safe to let them off leash outside the house. My own fault as I should have enquired before booking."

Rustical Update

Even if this property accepts dogs, it is not designed to prevent dogs from getting out, and we cannot guarantee the perimeter of the estate and the dogs being able to escape.

Its a very nice and quiet location, really relaxing. But keep in mind that the the nearest Supermarkt is at least 30 minutes away. I think its very nice for walking, but at the moment we stayed there, the temperature on the day went over 40 degrees Celcius, so we had to take the hikes early in the morning. Overall we had a great time"

This is a magical place! We came for a week of yoga, hiking and meditation and certainly picked the perfect spot. The minute we walked into the house it felt like home. It was a perfect spot for relaxing and recuperation. The area is stunning and the hikes varied. We will be returning next year."

Fantastic holiday in a house that was obviously built with love and friendship. If you want to stay somewhere that feels genuinely homely, are happy/excited to be off-grid, and are looking for peace, space and watching vultures circling overhead then this is perfect. It's a half hour walk to the stunning waterfall/swimming spot (follow the path to the medieval bridge of Boixils), and is well worth going - as is following the path down from Boixils village to the waterfall. We really appreciated the swing and hammock, as well as the well-equipped kitchen, large larder and the friendliness of the Rustical Travel personnel."

Paul | August | 2018

We loved staying in this house, completely unique and beautiful. The area was remote and stunning, the house felt as if it was part of the natural environment. It would be helpful to state more clearly in the information that there is no usable oven in the property during the summer months - the cooking range is linked to central heating, so you wouldn't want to light it in warm weather. I hadn't taken this in, so we arrived we food that required oven cooking. Cooking was a bit challenging as we didn't find bbqing in the fireplace easy - smoke tended to blow into the living room."

Rustical Update

We don't advertise this property as having a conventional oven. As for the fireplace, there is a valve next to it that helps controling the smoke so it doesn't get into the living room. If it's tricky to handle, the caretaker can be contacted to explain how to use it.

+ beautiful location + friendly welcome + absolute silence + quality of the mattress in the master bedroom + quality and tone of information provided by rustical travel + playing football in the garden :-) - management of expectations: the quality of the house doesn't match the quality of the pictures on rusticaltravel.com - no comfortable spot to sit outside - some kitchen stuff dirty - hard to heat/ chimney draws badly - low ceiling on the first floor - we didn't expect an energy guzzling rickety fridge in a 900 €/ week eco lodge. The door box of the fridge falls apart if you put something in - value for money: over the last five years we've rented six different 3+ bedroom-houses in this area. This house is by far the most expensive, quality is #5"

Rustical Update

The property manager let us know the fridge is only 2 years old and in good condition, but will keep an eye if they need to replace it at some point. They also said they will clean everything, as sometimes previous clients leave dirty kitchen equipment.

The cottage is in a wonderful location, very tranquil and great for relaxing. Some feedback for the owners on improvements; The bedding could do with replacing, the oven needs to repaired so it actually works and at least one container of potable water left in the kitchen/store room. Given that the water supply is not potable and the nearest supply is approx 4km away this should be a basic standard. We did leave three containers full and resupplied the logs in the house for the fire. Aside from that, we had a great time and would definitely go again!"

Rustical Update

We have contacted the property manager, who informed us that the oven works fine (although it can be tricky to handle), and that she will consider replacing the bedding. As for the water container, she normally leaves at least one at the house so, if there wasn't one in this occasion, it must have been a mistake, and she will try that it doesn't happen again.

We (2 adults and 2 young children) had a wonderful time at the "mountain house", we saw Eagles each morning above us and watched the stars at nigh. It was so peaceful and relaxing spending each day and night in and around the house - with the occasional trip out to swim in nearby town pools and the various natural swimming holes close by. Would love to stay again - 5 stars!"

Wonderful location - great birdwatching from the garden ! The house is fantastic with lots of quirky features . We needed the log fire but the house is so well insulated that we didn't need to use the central heating. No problems with the solar electricity ...even though we had three days of cloud / rain. The gas powered fridge / freezer was incredibly efficient . The isolated location may not suit everyone but we loved it and found lots to do in the area. Great service from Rustical Travel too ."

We all enjoyed the week we spent at Cal Serrat. The house is an experience in itself, and I really appreciated the interesting design features and individuality of it. It is beautifully located and the complete tranquillity felt very relaxing. I will especially remember watching the sunrise and the night sky from the balcony - they were spectacular. The information you provided both for direction to the house and the activities while there were useful. We especially enjoyed the things we did close to the house i.e. walk to La Rua, the Bridge/Waterfall near Boixols and 2 trips to Cal Borda (restaurant at Montanisell) These recommendations were very much appreciated and were the highlights of our week. Andi and his son (who spoke a little English) were very helpful and responsive. I did understand before we went that the house was not equipped to completely modern standards and I enjoyed the' back to basics' experience of it, but the primary drawback we found was that the power from the solar panels seemed to cut off while we were there. This may have been an unusual event but it could have been more of a problem if we had been staying longer. Also, when we tried to light the indoor fire (we were advised we could cook on it) the smoke coming back into the room was really bad. Again it may be an unusual problem, but combined with the house having no oven or outside barbeque access our diet was quite limited. Overall though, I am very happy with our holiday, and found the level of advice and personalised service from Rustical Travel very useful and supportive. I would definitely consider going back to Cal Serrat and recommend Rustical Travel to others. Thank you very much."

Rustical Update

The problem with the batteries of the solar pannels has been solved. As for the fumes problem, there is a valve next to the fire that was probably closed, causing the smoke to get into the room instead of getting out. From now on, clients will be informed of the existence of this valve so this doesn't happen again.
On April 2018 we are informed that new, more powerful solar panels have been installed at the property.

The house is great. Lots of character and very comfortable. The location is amazing. Overall we really enjoyed our stay in this house. The explanation provided on the area and the services available (where to go shopping...) were also very useful. The only negative point was with the hot water, which seemed limited and difficult to set. It was ok because we were only 2 adults and 1 child but I can see it becoming a bigger issue with larger group. I think it'd be great to leave a detailed map of the area in the house."

We loved the house, it was beautifully designed and built. The children adored their bedroom and playroom and it was amazing for them to have so much space. The master bedroom was fantastic too. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable week and were glad that we had some good weather as when the storms did come it meant we were indoors a lot and used more of the precious electricity. It is a great house for people who are happy to 'get back to nature' and to be remote and get away for it all, and accept this means there aren't the usual 'tourist', laid on activities on the doorstep, nor indeed ready access to shops and cafes, but a winner for people who have a spirit of adventure and can make their own fun!"

Just writing to say how much we loved our week in the Eco holiday mountain retreat in Pyrenees (CA22). The house was wonderful and the surroundings were stunning. My wife and I thought the property and setting were even better than described and we had one of the best vacations ever. We also enjoyed Marcos' helpfulness and his homemade honey. We are now planning another trip to spain for Andalucia next year and will definitely book through Rustical Travel again. Thanks again for the great experience."

Martin | July | 2014

We had a wonderful time at CA22. It was more remote than we expected (nearest town with grocer's is a half hour drive away) - and no landline, internet, or even mobile reception. But that turned out to be a blessing for a peaceful and adventurous holiday. The river pools at the bottom of the valley are quite stunning, as is the scenery generally. The wildlife is remarkable - particularly the birds of prey and the vultures. And the house itself is quite special - clearly a place whose owners have devoted enormous thought and care."

In 2016 WiFi internet has been installed. It is rural internet so possibly limted / not good for streaming.
